Maastricht

Maastricht is a true city of culture with a Burgundian streak. Past and present alternate not only in architecture, but also in cultural offerings. From underground cultural treasures and characteristic towers to all kinds of exhibitions. Maastricht is known for its many good restaurants, its brown cafés, and, of course, its particularly colourful carnival (Vasteloavend). It is also home to the annual André Rieu concerts on the Vrijthof square.

Apostelhoeve

The Dutch wine tradition has its origins in Roman times; after the Middle Ages, the Dutch wine tradition gave way to other forms of agricultural activity. In 1970, the first vines returned to the southern slopes of the Jeker valley, at the Apostelhoeve. The Apostelhoeve, one of Limburg's most beautiful spots on top of the Louwberg, is home to the Netherlands' oldest and one of the largest wine estates in the Netherlands.

Wine Castle Genoels-Elderen

Between Tongeren and Maastricht, along the old Roman road, in the municipality of Riemst, lies Belgium's only wine castle. Not by chance, as the Romans already had vineyards in this region.

With 22 hectares of vineyards, Wine Castle Genoels-Elderen is the largest wine estate in the country and welcomes 15,000 visitors a year. Expert guides lead you through the park, the vineyards, the rose garden, the distillery, the press house, and the 13th-century wine cellars. Make your visit a day in Limburg. Enjoy specialties in nearby restaurants and visit sights in the area.
